Formal Photos FAQ

Welcome & Thank You for Inquiring!

Here are some common questions regarding Kleur's School Formal Photography Service & Pricing.

Q. All images available for download service. What does this mean?

All their images will be uploaded into the photo gallery for unlimited access and download. This service means we supply all suitable images taken and offer unlimited downloads per student for one upfront price. We charge per student attending their formal, not per photograph afterwards. This method allows for us to capture main aspects of their evening. Their gallery will be filled with images of their special evening event including arrival photos, main event photos and formal photos. Our all inclusive service provides students with awesome value! Plus when you book with us, teachers are free.

Q. What and who is photographed?

We photograph everything! Here is a standard sample:

  • Student's arrival at their vehicle

  • Red carpet - Students on the red carpet

  • Inside the venue - Room shots / candid shots / roaming photography

  • During the event - Speeches / performances / awards / dancing / just the fun stuff!

  • In the double sized studio with a backdrop & studio lighting - Portraits of individuals, couples, small groups, large groups, class groups, teachers (if they are keen!). Everyone is welcome to be photographed. All teachers attending the formal are photographed for free.

Q. How many photos are students allowed to have taken?

Students are welcome to have as many photos taken throughout the night. Professional quality photos are taken of student arrivals, in our formal studio at the venue, during their event with roaming photos and they are welcome to ask us for pictures anytime throughout the evening.

Q. How many photos does each student receive?

All their images will be uploaded into the photo gallery for free access and download. Depending on how many times a student comes up, we take multiple photos of each student every time. It is common for students to have multiple images taken, individually, with their formal partner, with friends, teachers and so on. So on average, plenty!

Q. Is there an option where photography is free and students purchase their photos online? This is possible, however we discourage this and leave it as the last option. It is more expensive for students to purchase online. Photographers charge $30 for 1 hi-res image to cover their costs and therefore many students miss out on professional photos due to affordability. At KLEUR, we believe every high school student should have affordable formal photos. Instead of charging per image (which becomes expensive for families), we charge per student attending, giving them full access to our service over the evening & full download access to all images taken on the night. This is why we offer the value for money pre-paid method which enables every student to enjoy access to professional photos.

Q. How much does it cost?

Starting prices are $19.50 per student. Schools who book early in the year receive an early booking discount of 10%. We will need to provide your school a quote based on estimated numbers expected to attend your formal. Teachers photograph free.

Q. How many photos are usually uploaded for a school formal?

Depending on your student numbers attending, typically anywhere from 500+ quality digital images are uploaded for students and families to download.

Q. How do students access their images?

Students access their secure password protected formal gallery online. KLEUR will email the school a link and password to their photo gallery, which the school will  forward to the students.

Q. Can they print their digital images?

YES! Definitely. They are hi-res images so enlargements can be printed.

Q. Do you have more information regarding the gallery digital downloads?

Digital downloads will be available in both lo-res for sharing online AND hi-res for printing. Galleries can be downloaded in full or individual images can be selected instead. The gallery is password protected and secure.

Q. We have some students whose identity cannot be shared in the gallery. What options do we have for them?

Our galleries have the ability for you to mark photos as private. We would need the school to mark those images before downloading them and emailing these direct to those identified students. Once the school has done this and provided us with the go-ahead, we will delete those images from the formal gallery before making it available to student families.

If there is only one student who this applies to, then they can access those private images with a different access code for them only.

Q. How long before we will have access to our gallery?

Typically we say 5-7 days. If there is a short delay it would be where additional detailed editing is required.  We aim to have formal photos out by the time students have finished schoolies and to date haven't been delayed.

Q. Are we required to pay a deposit?

Yes. We take a $500 deposit to secure your booking. This is important as we will be booking & securing you experienced reliable formal photographers to work with us on your event.

Q. What happens to our deposit if our formal is cancelled?

Cancellations due to Covid-19 government restrictions will be 100% refundable.

All other cancellations - we require six weeks notice in the event you need to cancel your formal to receive a 100% refund. Cancellations after this date will incur a fee to pay the loss of work to our photographers as they will decline formal photography work for your event.

Q. Are you experienced photographers?

I am the founder of Kleur Photography and personally have photographed and managed photography for school formals for over 10 years.. The photographers I work with are wonderful, friendly and very experienced in this. We absolutely love working with school staff and students, working hard but having an amazing time with everyone. This helps us catch the best shots possible.

I also work with major photography companies as a sub-contractor.

Here's a few jobs photographed for my own business & other companies over the years: Upper Coomera State College (5 yrs straight), TSS (7-8yrs straight), Villanova (7 yrs straight), Robina SHS (3yrs), Mary MacKillop College Nundah (5yrs), Benowa SHS (2yrs), Redcliffe SHS (2yrs) Varsity College Formal (4yrs), Hills International (7yrs straight), Ormiston College (5 yrs), Christian Outreach Formal (3yrs), Forest Lake SHS, Bremer SHS Formal (3yrs), Maroochydore SHS Formal, Victoria Point and  a ton more. I look after 6-7 schools every year for other photography businesses so in total have photographed approximately 100 formals as their manager & photographer.

I work with other professional photographers I know and trust, hiring them for our formal jobs. They assist me with schools requiring more than one photographer.

Other photography experience: event photography, portraits on location and in studios, wedding photography, family, sport photography, team photos, school photography, corporate events, Christmas functions, award ceremonies, engagements, product release, grand store openings and more.

In the past couple of years I worked in photography jobs for University of Qld, Suncorp, Qld Xray, Compass Housing, Anaconda, Workplace Health & Safety, Spotlight, Daniel Morcombe Foundation to name the most recent.

To maintain high standards, any additional photographers working on Kleur jobs will be equally experienced.

I have added my own question. Why don't I have a ton of reviews on my website:) As I worked closely with clients, I have received a lot of  verbal testimonials. Being a humble introverted but caring person I didn't follow up on testimonials as evidence of happy clients for my own site, so many years of missed opportunity in building up my own business reputation! I am making a concerted effort to share what people are saying about working with me, about their images to help others in their photography decisions. I look forward to hearing your own experiences!
